Ingredients You’ll Need 

– 500g diced steak – 1 onion, finely chopped – 2 carrots, sliced – 1 celery stalk, chopped – 250ml ale (your choice) – 1 beef stock cube – 1 tbsp flour – 1 sheet of puff pastry – Salt and pepper to taste

Prepare the Beef Filling 

1. Heat oil in a pan. 2. Add diced steak and cook until browned on all sides. 3. Remove from pan and set aside.

Cook the Vegetables 

1. In the same pan, add chopped onions, carrots, and celery. 2. Cook for 5 minutes until softened. 3. Stir in 1 tablespoon of flour to thicken the mixture.

Adding the Ale 

1. Pour the ale into the pan with the vegetables. 2. Stir in the beef stock cube. 3. Return the browned steak to the pan. 4. Let it simmer for 20 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Seasoning 

1. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. 2. Cook for an additional 5 minutes. 3. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.

Preparing the Pastry 

– Roll out the puff pastry sheet. – Use it to line a pie dish. – Trim the edges to fit the dish perfectly.

Assemble the Pie 

– Pour the cooled steak and ale filling into the pastry-lined dish. – Cover with another sheet of puff pastry. – Crimp the edges with a fork and cut a few small slits on top for steam to escape.

Baking the Pie

1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F). 2. Brush the top of the pie with beaten egg for a golden finish. 3. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.

Serving Your Steak and Ale Pie 

Let the pie cool for 5 minutes before serving. Slice into portions and enjoy with mashed potatoes or peas for a complete meal!
